Need help - GOG version of Fallout 3 crashes - posted in Fallout 3 Technical Support: Okay, so this is my first attempt at getting help, so please be patient. Stopped playing Fallout an aeon ago, so I decided to try Fallout 3 for the first time while I was sick over the holidays. I found a copy of Fallout 3 GOTY on GOG that was compatible with Windows 10 (which is what I am running). Ive installed newest video drivers. And I'm still getting crashes. Whats funny and depressing is the fact that my roommate which also has Fallout 3 is playing it without any lockups on an OLDER version of Inspiron ( with lesser CPU GPU etc) he bought 2 years ago, I bought mine barely a year ago. Im not aware of a special fallout 3 new vegas crash log. Theres your windows event viewer. Best thing you can do is post a dxdiag and explain in as much detail as you can about the crash. What is happening when the crash occurs (include exception code if there is one you can search the event viewer). Fallout 3 for me is crashing randomly every 10-30 minutes. It's not even crashing, but the screen is frozen while the music still plays. After that happens, I have to ctrl-shift-esc to force quit the Fallout 3 process. It's really annoying:.

Things that you should keep in mind!
While Windows 10 is relatively new, it is imperative that you have each and everything checked before you say that you have a broken game.
- Download and install important updates of the operating system since many times game crashes take place because of missing updates.
- Update your drivers to the latest version.
- This does not just include video drivers, but other ones ranging from storage, audio, chipset etc.
- If you have a dedicated graphics card in your system, update its drivers from their respective site.
- For every other driver, you have to make sure that you download and install those drivers according to the components present on your motherboard (for that, you will have to visit the website of your motherboard’s manufacturer).
- Failure to do so will result in crashes and sometimes it could even mean the dreaded BSOD (Blue screen of death) while playing Fallout 3.
What else should you do before starting Fallout 3?
- Make sure that you have the latest DirectX files installed. To update your DirectX files, head down to Microsoft’s website and download them from here.
- The completion will depend upon how fast your Internet connection is.
- You should also update Microsoft .NET Framework 4 from here, since it will contribute to solving your game crashes by a huge margin.
How to stop Fallout 3 from crashing on Windows 10?
Now that everything is fine, let us get down to fixing this pesky issue.
Fallout 3 Crash Log
- If your game is crashing every time you start the launcher, you will have to navigate to the following file: C:GamesSteamsteamappscommonFallout 3
- In the Fallout 3 goty or Fallout 3 folder (depending on the version of the game you have installed), you will have to look for a specific file.
- This file will carry a .dll
- Make sure that you can see all the files by searching for .dll in the top-right area of the screen.
- After you have located the DLL file (D3D9), simply delete it, and start the game once more.
- Scan for registry corruption using RegInOut System Utilities.
- If the game is still crashing, then we highly recommend that you download the UPDATED Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch from here.
- Apply the patch to where the game installation is being held.
- Start the game.
